Ubud, Bali
A reservation-led quiet cocktail bar.
Devotion poured into every glass.
Origin
Chakana was born from a recognition — that two ancient traditions, separated by ocean and millennia, speak the same truth. In the Andes, Pachamama. In Bali, Ibu Pertiwi. Both names mean Mother Earth. Both traditions honour the ground beneath our feet with offering, reciprocity, and reverence.
The Chakana — the Andean stepped cross — is a bridge. Between above and below, past and present, the known and the unseen. We carry that meaning into this space.
This bar is not a destination. It is a crossing.

Philosophy
Chakana is not a loud bar. We do not compete with music for your attention or with spectacle for your presence. We offer the opposite — a deliberate stillness in which taste, texture, and human connection can be fully felt.
Here, silence is not absence. It is the condition for everything else.
Presence
Every guest arrives and is fully received. No screens behind the bar. No ambient noise beyond the room itself.
Reciprocity
Ayni, the Andean principle of sacred exchange. We give with intention. We ask that you receive the same way.
Ritual
A cocktail made with care is a small ceremony. We believe the manner of making and serving matters as much as what is in the glass.
The House Rituals

01
You are welcomed with warm water steeped with herbs gathered from the garden. A moment to pause. To land. To be here.

02
Each drink is introduced slowly. Its story. Its roots. The land it comes from, and the land it arrives upon. Drinking becomes listening.

03
Small tables. Intentional seating. Every guest here chose to come quietly. There is a shared understanding in that — you already know each other.

04
We end each evening with a small gesture of gratitude. A sprig of something. A word. A single candle extinguished together. Ayni — given and received.

Twelve Seats Only
Every evening is intimate by design. We accept requests up to four weeks in advance.
The Space
The bar was designed to feel ancient and unhurried. Hand-carved volcanic stone. Clay vessels. Reclaimed timber from a Javanese joglo. Light comes from candles and a single oil lamp. Sound comes from the garden. At full capacity, we seat twelve.
There are no screens. There is no background music. There is only what you brought with you, and what we offer in return.

Stone walls. Candlelight.

Eight seats only.

Each object chosen with care.
